About Farmer Giles of Ham
Set in a whimsical, legendary Britain of long ago, Farmer Giles of Ham introduces Aegidius de Hammo, a comfortably unheroic farmer who prefers a quiet life to grand adventures. When he accidentally scares off an encroaching, short-sighted giant with a lucky shot from his blunderbuss, he unwittingly becomes a celebrated local hero and catches the eye of the King. Yet glory brings greater peril when a cunning, treasure-hoarding dragon begins terrorizing the countryside, and the realm demands Giles ride forth once more. Packed with inventive linguistic wit and playful parody, this charming satirical fable showcases J.R.R. Tolkien’s brilliant humor and storytelling mastery beyond Middle-earth.
